This commercial is from 1979 and she died in 1979 so it was probably about 1 or 2 months later.
sad that the music cant just be enjoyed. ok, everyone k nows how and when she passed! why focus on the heavy part of life? just enjoy and live. even tho she was sick, her music was focused on love and life. maybe alot of you should try that. learn a lil something.
If the timeline is correct, she died about 2 years after this.
Could you all please give respect to Minnie and her family? Who knows they may read your comments. These videos are about Minnie’s beautiful voice and her talent. She would not have appreciated or expected to have her songs and footage previewed for people to vent and use ugly language. Find another page to do this. There are people who enjoy the comments and the footage, especially if they are positive.
A super talent, and I hear she was a super woman… She did a lot for awareness of breast cancer, who knows how many lives that saved. God Bless Her.
Her daughter is Maya Rudolph of SNL. Very talented also.
hiiamrick is one of those secular leftist nut cases, running around all day with Karl Marx’s book that produced so many murderers. Leave us G-d fearing people alone
yes she did!
wait but didnt she die of breast cancer??
The footage in the background, does anyone know what show she was performing on when she was singing? I thought I had seen all of her footages except, when she was on the Tonight’s Show and announced that she had breast cancer (and was interrupted by a commercial because no one knew she would make the announcement) and I have not seen her footage from March 22, 1975 on American Bandstand. This footage may have been for the commercial, I am just curious.
God bless this gifted woman, gone too soon….I think one of her reasons for being here was to bring beautiful, hopeful music to everyone. And even though she’s no longer with us, I think that even this commercial may have helped to save who knows how many women. I never knew about this commercial till now….
What do you know about God? I bet your one of those religious nut cases, I bet you run around all day with a book that was interpreted by a killer “king james”. Leave me and my beliefs alone.
True that.
God doesnt make mistakes she was meant to be here to give the beauty that she gave then he wanted her home we may not understand God decisions but its not for us to understand its just for us to accept, learn from, and keep being good people
I guess sometimes God makes a mistake and just wants them back?
i agree. life is unfair sometimes. the good people like Minnie Riperton, Sam Cooke, Aaliyah, etc. have to die so young but CHARLES MANSON is still alive? it just isn’t right.
but i beleive Heaven has one heck of a musical lineup!
Man why the good ones gotta go…man WHY?????
i don’t know about you all, but that record-skipping is frightening. perhaps because…well you know.
“The announcer he just says she lost her breast in such a matter-of-factly way like ah well its no big deal and then she still died. grrr!”-kailac24
The only thing that was funny about that video was the way the announcer said she lost a breast. Of course breast cancer isn’t funny. No cancer is funny. I have lost family to lung cancer. go to therapy. We’re cool but seriously go.
Apologies for wishing ill of your family. However, I still feel in VERY inappropriate you think the comment that person wrote was funny. There’s nothing funny about it, AT ALL. The fact you were offend, annoyed, incensed or all three by what I said, proves my point. There was no “LOL” in your last statement. When you think it to be someone you care for, it ceases to be (lol) funny.
I can’t believe you said that. No one in my family has ever died of breast cancer. My grandmother lost one of hers, but she’s fine now, unlike your grandmother and great aunt. They’re in heaven and tit less. Next time you think to speak ill of my loved ones, don’t.
You’re an ass.
what do you mean laugh out loud??!! I hope someone close to you dies of breast cancer (like Minnie, My Grandmother & Great Aunt). Maybe the fucked up laughter will quiet down a bit! And yes, I have a sense of humor – when something is funny.
Very true. However, there have been many advancements in the treatment of breast cancer since then…many gals are survivors…but still, looking at the big picture of things, I don’t believe we are ‘winning the war’ against cancer.
Kailac, this was just how announcers talked. This man was a famous one. Until the “where’s the Beef” commercial, hardly anyone used humor in a commercial. I didn’t have a TV then but I’d bet that this was pretty shocking to the American public to bring up such a personal problem. It wasn’t done so this was very brave.
