I was just thinking of that ad myself. It’d be great to have it.

  10. HappyDaze01 says:

God I remember that. Do you have any videos of that show. I remember the snazzy theme tune with the brass instruments but can’t remember the title. Can you help me there?

  11. johnkelly46 says:

I wouldnt be getting so excited if Alan Hughes off of Ireland AM was coming home!! Hope the recession sends him back to whatever planet he came from

I first saw this ad just before I emigrated in the late 80′s and I still think about it every now and again when I think of Ireland. A great ad and so glad I’ve found it on here after all these years. Makes me feel sad tho…

1988, was it that long ago?!! I was living and working in the UK at that time and always likes this ad when home on holidays.

  23. GoGAAGAA1 says:

I loved that ad when I was younger – only 3 years old at the time but remember it well. like an earlier poster said I’ve only just realised it’s Alan Hughes who is in it!! – Anyone know any of the locations featured in it? Amazing that the ad lasted almost 1 and a half minutes too – most ads are 30/40 seconds these days

  24. miaireland23 says:

I cry every time I see this ad. I love it!

  25. spacetweek says:

Lovely ad, sentimental but it was a more innocent time back then. No consumer boom, motorways to shopping malls, and superpubs. I love how she puts on his electric blanket!

Love the old orange Iarnrod Eireann train where you had to manually open and close the door, though I know they only finally got rid of those in 2008! I love how he gets the train, nowadays everyone drives.

I think it was very unusual to have storage heaters back then though? Even nowadays they’re still not common.
