Interesting in the way they marketed a product or service. No longer were they just the announce with a pounce sort of thing. They had a story in them a song, a line that made you remember the product and even special effects. Lets take a look at some memorable commercial of the 80s.
- Apple Jacks This advertisement was really fun with its cute line Fun to eat an appley treat! Kellogs Apple Jacks!
- Coco Cola Dont we all remember the Coca Cola ad featuring Bill Cosby bringing out the drink from behind a magic ball and telling about it, through sort of predictions?
- Duracell There would be a whole set of bunnies, all of which went out of energy at some point, but only one of the lot kept going and going, which is also the a slogan that Duracell adopted. This one is memorable because of the way they projected the long-lasting energy of the Duracell battery.
- Pepsi The 80s ad featuring Michael J. Fox was something that had everyones attention with Michael printing a paper, with a Pepsi can image on it because the Pepsi machine isnt working. He rolls the paper and it turns into a can of Pepsi, from which he drinks.
- Pizza Hut – This one had everyone going. The slogan then Pizza Hut, Pizza to go.”, made Pizza Hut very popular.
- Soft Whip Yohurt This one has a very memorable Jingle Soft Whip Is Soft And Creamy Too-Oo…Soft Whip Yogurt Is The One For You!
- Kit Kat Bars This one is really great because it get you enticed with a bit of tension. The ad begins with a person, going through a whole bunch of stuff and you are actually bemused when you see some really large stuff being pulled out of the bag. Finally the Kit Kat Bar comes out, which is what the persons been searching all along.
- MTV The MTV ad was really spectacular, with an astronaut landing on the moon, in which there was a flag that had the MTV logo on it. This surely caught people attention towards the channel.
What was noticed about the 80s ads was that they were more stylish and also fast. Viewers were drawn towards a product or service, through a catchy line, which brought out the essence of he product, it main qualities and reflected the brand image of the company. The ads themselves were like small movies, with a story from the beginning to the end. There were flashy costumes, celebrity stars doing ads like never before and of course innovative voice-overs that caught peoples attention.
With improvement in technology, graphics wee introduced and animation sequences got even more sophisticated. Lighting effects were definitely more mature than what you saw in the 70s advertisements. Towards the end of the 80s advertisements were really posh, focusing on a mix of crowds and not just the typical American family or American public.
